Not exactly.
Bush had no plan to capture Bin Laden
But did plan to capture Iraqi oil fields in May of 2001.
BEFORE SEPTEMBER 11th!
Iraq plans prevented post-9-11 success in Afghanistan.

Wall Street or Main Street
Reading between the lines?
The people spoke out 100 to 1 against the bailout.
Republicans voted against** the bill:
[Note that my caution on Palin, is reflected in the conflict of nuance between her comments and McCain policy.[*] It is my feeling that some of the punditry is missing the nuance and/or her uncomfortablness is manufactured intentionally or not by her handlers.]
* the irony is that the Palin/McCain rhetoric on Pakistan is the Obama policy. Or diplomacy is flip-flop and context, not to mention the media.
**Perfect Politics McCain is out of touch, misrepresenting that Obama's allies voted down the bill, when the reverse is true.
[Bush blames media and is right for once. Bailout not the right word and even a fix is not the right word. Unless it is that we are in a fix.]

Republicans voted against** the bill:
"Despite the changes made during an intense week of negotiations, the heart of the program remains President Bush's original idea: spend billions of taxpayer dollars to buy mortgage-backed securities whose value has plummeted."This comment was from Sunday, seemingly mischaracterizing the progress made on a bipartisan basis. It seems to me that more accountability and more creativeness is needed to bring mainstreet along. But politically it will be difficult as Democrats will not go far enough, and Republicans want the market to fix itself, meaning more trickle down.

Update:
Palin caution.
Tentative Plan!
I may just be flip-flopping in both these areas, but it does seem to me that pundits may have been missing something, where Palin is not exactly Straight Talk but it is more of the same, while I am not always sure if I know or pundits or McCain knows what is on the table. Maybe I am too flip, but I am pretty sure they are all about flops or flaps. Hey! They haven't been too serious either.

And Bailout...
McCain it seems, is heading for the debate,
but it seems that he does not even know what plan is on the table.
And I am not sure too many do. And that was the day he suspended his campaign.
As usual the Democrats will get something done, while the Republicans hold onto their agenda of politics and business over people. [*]
Meanwhile progress at the UN Security Council on Iran is at risk of being more business as usual. I only heard a brief news item about a Russia calling something legally binding but without santions.
[* Bold only with this updated: Senator Bernie Sanders on The Thom Hartmann Show** has just now framed this. And last week mentioned the October Surprise as the bailouts arrived. Some people have said that the economy could not wait till October, but really politics could not wait, since congress was scheduled to go home to campaign.]
** must link this show "hit and run" aspect: Bush hits, Dems fix, Republicans Run. (see Domke)
Not to mention that this is a distraction that keeps politicians from being able to run.

Speaking of Makeup
Rachel Maddow has the right stuff*...
for MSNBC.
The only reason MSNBC should have resisted "conservative critics" is if they wanted to be the perfect counter-balance to FOX NEWS. If only they could find anchors without opinions or curiosity or personality, it might be a reasonable excuse. But I find it part of the "vast Right-wing conspiracy" of "do as I say, not as I do". Or part of their whiner nature, could it be "The squeaky wheel gets the oil"? No wonder the Straight Talk Express seems to have a rattle and need a pacifier.**
*intelligence + temperment
** double what?
[Update: I want to caution against too much ridicule of the way Governor Palin relates to foreign policy and economic issues. She is does a pretty good job of spinning up the trickle down. Meaning she is describing them in ways that obscure under sensible principles policies that will not achieve them. In other words she does a brilliant job of defending policies which are indefensible, yet fits the old pattern of what they think will work. But then I could just be too easy on her, or sexist, in an affirmative action sort of way.]
for MSNBC.
As Olbermann's audience grew to rival, though not quite equal, that of longtime ratings king Bill O'Reilly, MSNBC gained an unwanted reputation as an emergent liberal version of Fox News--a view that became more prevalent after Maddow's show was announced. Not exactly "Fair and Balanced".
Meanwhile Republican and former Congressman Joe Scarborough has a three-hour program every morning--more airtime than Maddow and Olbermann have combined. While MSNBC is experimenting with a block of liberal programming, as a network that shares offices with NBC News, it can't afford to be seen as having an ideological bias. The network recently bowed to conservative critics by moving Matthews and Olbermann, both seen as sympathetic to Barack Obama, out of the anchor chairs for live political events.

Taking a powder?
Talk about make-up.
What powder is dry for.
The Party is over! [Tentative Plan!]
I must admit as far as timeouts go, I don't necessarily take time to read some of the stuff that others filter. But I do at least get them somewhat filtered* by others and/or read parts of them. Of course with McCain he needs some kind of other filter it seems. I, it seems, have had enough. But I am going by the gist of the sentiment that the party is over for the administration when it comes to lack of oversight.
* in this case I wonder what the definition of suspend is as well as talking points let alone Express leaks.

Summary of a Flap.
Bailout or Meltdown? [UPDATE: above expired link with likely replacement.]
Really in actually reading this report[**], I will not cross-check it with all my comments and references. But McCain's panic was a beneficial coherence with Bush's, ironically indicated by looking into their eyes and seeing the same deer in the headlights. I don't know if it was in the reflection or their face as a hole, but the only plus to this Double of Mass Distraction is that "you can fool me once..." or I mean we see the boys "who cried wolf", while others have kept their cool.
LAST WORD: I may have to seriously suspend something as my wrists need their own wresting to other matters. But with that I will reference a guest on Rachel Maddow: author of... Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency The real flap in my view. Now is this a flap that is too out there? Well it has to do with the approach that is being taken and by who for whom, or is it whom for who?
In this flip-flop the people matter and there are only three branches of government and the media and politics are the people's business. In fact the press is mentioned in the Bill of Rights not to mention what is not mentioned in the constitution. How does this connect to any thing close to home? Well, floods and bailouts and who is a fundamental or just under the trickle down. Isn't it appropriate that TARP was the original name for the flap. Speaking of eyes and flaps, why not just face the fact that the people not only want to have the debate, but some think it should be about the economy rather than foreign policy now that would take courage* to face with out blinking.
* not to mention George or Will
[**] 3-19-09 rare editorial touchup throughout, one typo and italics and bold only and the economy link.

Daily Sarcasm (I mean, Intel)
McCain suspends politics,
McCain/Bush Gimmick
Comment: Sarcasm aside the markets were stable yesterday, and given the credibility of the president, his scare tactics may just calm the market. Or could it be, when things get tough, the tough get going. Obama and congress (Democrats anyway) have kept their cool and continued their work, while Republicans may be in faux retreat. Meaning the "Paulson Plunder", 3-1/2 pages, which are no longer on the table, has evolved into something more sensible unless it can not make it into new words on paper that actually have teeth.
It is noted that "It was the first time in Mr. Bush’s presidency that he delivered a prime-time speech devoted exclusively to the economy." While I was thinking something similar, but mostly that this was the so-called MBA president, who is finally learning something.
Stay tuned... but I think I will suspend something.
Meanwhile: more whining, and I wonder what McCain will say about Letterman and CBS.
Other's comments: gawker? And to contrast the journalism of the New York Times. I suspect this is really why Palin was picked to create a media conspiracy. Almost hinted at here, as "anti-media manipulation", well this week was the test of "real dignity and cool". This last being my unspinning of spinmeister or mistress* Peggy Noonan of the Wall Street Journal on Friday. (Noonan: Reagan speech-writer and Special Assistant, and free market think tank trustee.
* Is madame maybe more accurate? But they are probably against being PC.

Bailout!
Republican opposition to old plan.
In McCain's acceptance speech I believe he talked about reaching for a hand across the aisle. Today he apparently reached across networks if not the nation. In the earlier instance I imagined him giving that hand a good yank with an evil grin. Today he did just that, but with a more dazed look.
Here is how it played out:
Obama asks McCain for Joint Economic Statement
McCain Cancels Letterman Appearance for Katie Couric
Bush has new plan.
Sounds a bit like the Democrat's plan.
Rachel?
Long story short? Talking Points?
Panic Intercepted by Politics.

All in?
I think David Letteman said: "Something is fishy."
And a caller to Rachel Maddow(hosted by David Bender) may have hit the dead fish on the head. McCain wants to avoid having Sarah Palin have a debate. That may be where the media may have taken the bait though. But the public probably won't bite.
The real so called lure in this strategy is that McCain wants to put the economy over his campaign. Well despite recent tugging at the Paulson Plunder, his plans only nibble at a solution, while the economy really is spinning his campaign out of control. OK, fishy metaphors aside, I can't get away from it stinking. The Dead On Arrival plan was a no brainer, not to pass, and the only way to spin this is that the administration has set him up to seem a hero, while congress will look bad for not biting. My suggestion: bite back. Let McCain retreat to work on his plan with the administration, while Democrats and Obama work on a plan with and for the American people.
There are only two choices: Congress doesn't act and the economy is in a fix. Or congress acts and McCain can take credit or cast blame for getting or not getting what he wants. It will be negotiated or not, with or without McCain.
In the end, McCain is the loser because it goes directly against his argument that government is not there to fix things. But in the end, he might be able to prove that they are not. That will make the people the loser, and not really change you can believe in.

McCain camp sexist.
Sarcasm? (see video)
No- perfect rhetoric.
[If you can't stand the heat...]
I don't know about Sam Stein's comment, but Ed Schultz's callers thought Campbell Brown was being sarcastic? Could be, but that only misses who it is aimed at. Ed and I take it serious. Maybe I missed where Ed is lost, but the Palin selection is no Joke. The point is that sexism is their defense for their offense. It is great that she is a woman. But if she were a man, her policies would be the point where we would have issues. Meanwhile she (the Maverick) is being trained in the same old politics. Oops, now I have trampled into agism. But referenced back to training and issues should bring to mind Reagan not to mention Nixon handlers, by way of Bush and Rove.
Forget about Truman and his "get out of the kitchen" metaphor: they can't even stand the sarcasm, let alone the media.
[get out of the sarcasm...]
[But it remains to be seen when she does face the media, will she be prepared or just polished and the media still the battered significant other.]

Political Strings Pulled
Bush upcoming big speech.
McCain wants debate delay.
Ed Schultz plays a good question McCain faced but refused to answer while spinning it back on the Dems. The administration has known this was coming for some time while McCain's advisor has been on the payroll of Freddie Mac.
If the debate is cancelled the meeting with Bush should take them to task or at least be framed as who you bring to the table. Who will Obama and McCain be bringing and who will Bush have there? What will the purpose be? It would really be fun if it were only Bush, McCain, and Obama and us. What would the Independents, the Greens, or the Libertarians bring to the table? I think it would be a smart move if the purpose is unclear to skip the meeting and let McCain and Bush play politics, and let congress give them the business. Or rather take them over.
On the other hand, could it be that McCain has finally changed?
Maybe we are finally there.
White House welcomes plans. Just as I suspected. Another Straw Elephant.
Meanwhile just as I post this and search for links, this breaks:
"We must meet as Americans, not as Democrats or Republicans, and we must meet until this crisis is resolved," McCain said. "I am confident that before the markets open on Monday we can achieve consensus on legislation that will stabilize our financial markets, protect taxpayers and homeowners, and earn the confidence of the American people. All we must do to achieve this is temporarily set politics aside, and I am committed to doing so."
How this is enacted could be a clean break for us. But I think the real "panic" is political. And McCain ad proves it. Or at least not a clean break for McCain.
Now Ed's got it. The networks should give both candidates a rebuttal. Especially if one is going to run for the other rather than debate.

Change Happens!
What makes people vote Republican?
This link just happened to be mentioned on GOLEFT.TV but fit my thought that leads into this. Actually triggered by earlier comment there. The fact that one changes so much and still needs more change is not the exerience that might be needed to lead us in the change we need.

Palin Flip-Flop
Where is the change?
Rachell Maddow reports on the "troopergate" cover-up [*].
Sarah Palin is being investigated for abuse of power in her office as Governor of Alaska. A bi-partisan charged committee to which she first promised full cooperation, now faces the McCain CYA forces. (You know what that stands for.)
This is a case where the cover-up is worse than the offense. After all, there may have been no laws broken, but ethics apparently are relative. Ouch! Actually abuse of power is no small matter, but it seems that this could be tricky, as hypocrisy does not seem to raise many concerns. After all, would not most people, wish they could just make it so.
[*] Not to mention Palin popularity being hinged upon energy (another reference to a panel covered-up, think Cheney) but on the irony of the fiscal conservative in regard to the Alaska state budget growth, based on oil prices.

Firing vs. Hiring
McCain Not Exactly Highering.
[update 9-19-08: bold [*] and link added below]
A recent comment by McCain about firing someone is what I take off from. My point is, it is easier for him to fire someone than hire someone [*] who would raise the standards of government. This seems to shine through in his hiring which lowers the standards and raises the bar for the rest of us. It was also touched on in his acceptance speech in regards to service, how easy it is to just get in there and change things. To me it is rather confusing, does he know enough or does he need a study?
He proceeded to wave a finger about Obama not lifting a finger. I don't have that link(to finger phrase), but I did find what it seems is a bit of borrowing, if I recall. Something about "A regulatory structure set up for banks in the 1930s needed to change because the nature of business had changed." said Obama in above link and recently lifted by McCain. The irony is complete in that the lifting was political and a flip-flop when he complained that Obama was using the issue for political gain.
[*] Rachell Maddow points out that the president cannot fire the SEC chairman, as McCain would do if he were president. But he made an even greater faux pas in foreign affairs. Or was it really faux pax pas in dissing Spain.

Victim Hood
Alaska Mythbusters?
Palin charged rape victims? Not Exactly.
Family Values meets Fiscal Conservative?
Is that right?
Reading between the lines, no actually reading the lines, Palin is MIA.
Not exactly a maverick.
You see, that is the difficulty with the media, the right can take things out of context, but the left gets accused when they have it in the least context. In this I mean that Palin has been touted for her executive skills, which is drawing fire from more persistent journalists.
Palin charged rape victims? Not Exactly.
Family Values meets Fiscal Conservative?
Is that right?

What Democracy Looks Like? [9-10-08]
The Joel Connelly piece "Obama takes the 'low drama' approach" certainly contrasts his campaign with McCain's. It shows the value of community organizing while McCain/Palin seem to knock heads together and too few roll, unless you don‘t "contribute" to their cause. But I quibble with his claim, Obama has "left the right wing smear machine so bereft of material that Swift Boaters of 2008 have been forced to concoct stories." That is "not exactly"-"change you can believe in".
Real change would be if the Swift Boaters could be remembered for the courageous vets their name high-jacked and if they could ever tell the truth. My concocted label for the difference is "Flip-Flopper Crafters"- us and them. One might call this campaign, "Burger Wars": Wendy’s vs. Burger King or "Where’s the beef?" vs. "Home of the Whopper." No con-notation intended, but it has leaked that the Republican Convention was not about issues, but a "composite view". Irony of ironies, the Big Mac lacks the "special sauce" of nuance and straight forwardness, let alone any ingredients of the Bull-Moose Party or Teddy Roosevelt.
Who Gets It? Oh, Right. [9-13-08]
Let’s get this straight. Palin jokes in her acceptance speech: What is the difference between a pit bull and a hockey mom? Answer: lipstick Who got up in arms about that remark? I guess it is not a sexist joke if a woman (and hockey mom) says it. Am I applying too much meaning here, like lipstick. Oops, did that cross a line? I don’t worry about pit bulls, or at least their feelings. I wonder if hockey moms are proud of the comparison? Taking offense at Obama‘s use of "like putting lipstick on a pig" seems to be far fetched in comparison. Especially, when McCain has used it so many times, and seems to have a leash on it. You know? The phrase that is. I don’t know about pigs or pit bulls, but issues and attack dogs? (a leash that is) Do we really need a vet? Apparently the media needs one. A closer look that is.
Oh and what is the difference between Sarah Palin and a Neo Con? I don’t think it is lipstick. Apologies to Neo Cons, but they are proud of her. I wonder what the lipstick feels. Oh, and just what did the Palin nomination, do for the ticket? A new leash on life, or at least meanings. And let me vet myself here; McCain's excuse for all this? "...this is a tough campaign." I think he has smeared his own makeup, let alone "change". And speaking of taking offense, no use of the term "vet" here, disrespects anyone's service, I am sure both the military and the medical are tougher than that, while the media needs to get a grip.

Bipartisan Maverick
Apologies to wikipedia or Obama.
I could have sworn there was some charge that Obama had no record in the senate. OK, I am exaggerating. But it was about sponsorship and bipartisanship. Evidence is in the above that succeeding in only 2 of 136 of Ombama's sponsored attempts at legislation rates him a maverick. Ironically McCain should have know about at least one he cosponsored(2nd link).
But a more recent or inclusive source.
Maybe Obama would rather fight for issues than create a record. I don't know if the comparison or the charge is more lame. NOT!*.
And for the ideologically impaired, I mean no disrespect for an injured vet, only for a broken ideology. If we could put sarcasm aside we would disarm the Right.
* I leave the original link and add Huffington Post's

Whining to Win.
First it was about the economy and from a McCain advisor, then it was about the media. Actually quite a bit transpired in between. But the image thing, composite or not, should be compared to The Dean Scream. Actually I am not attributing Deans loss to his scream, but it was a turning point and cover for the media turning. While the light that McCain is cast in, should be examined more carefully, not to mention Palin.
As misinforming as the position Pro-Life is, maybe a better bumper sticker would be Pro-Baby. Whining begins at conception.
Or maybe: Baby First!
[Speaking of winning expressions that is: See The View as contexted here, and watch the first video of him under fire for his ads. Talk about getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar and blaming the baby, or is it the bath water.
[9-17-08: The above was posted before a caller to The Thom Hartmann Show, [*] noted some research backup for my anecdotal unRoveing.]
[In my opinion the easy dismissal of studies by one side of the ideological spectrum, defines the spectrum. One side defines the parameters to study, the other attacks the study to define their way. It could be described as "might makes right" while meaning gets left behind. A point that may have been neutrally arrived at by one critic. "So next time, give 'em something to really cry about."]
[*]: yesterday's caller but again today: the above amendments were posted prior to today's show begining on the topic of smear or coverage - In discussion with the author a reference to Caesar's work(not his words but mine and McCain's), places it as the foundation of our country, while apparently the press has become a fifth column.

McCain Cover(age)
Image controversy.
It must be clarified that I am using a technique often used by the media. "All Palin, all the time..." Tweaking the headline.
The Atlantic Issue, is more about the work of the photographer.
An image has been rattling around my head.
American Neo Con But it is a composite of McCain and Palin, and they are not covered in lipstick, but what pigs are usually covered with.
And speaking of their only shot.
Reading the fine print or between the images, there really is more "straight talk" than the McCain campaign. The cover of The Atlantic is supposedly not doctored, but some of the other images should not see the light. Others are out there doing photoshop, it should not come from a professional. It demeans the journalism. Of course the Republicans demean politics and government, so the public should ask, who is de meanest.
Under the covers:
Jeffrey Goldberg : The Wars of John McCain
Marc Ambinder What We Learned This Weekend
Speaking of Age, it is a bit whiny to complain about tough ads. It seems that McCain not only hides behind his own attacks but his defense wreaks havoc with his own experiences. Bearings are crucial to a pilot and that he loses them is not about his age but his leadership. His age and Palin's gender are no excuse for not standing up for vets or women and facing the issues and the media would go a long way to correcting one's bearing. Bearing is not just something in the woods.

Uncovered Update
Trying to update a link:
Solid Facts from the President (link not available)I stumbled upon another source, which I to the best of my knowledge did not use at the time. Though looking at the details, it may be a great footnote for what I may have filtered somehow.
HOWEVER: What I was on my way to uncovering was not a DINO,
or a RINO, but the real Dino.
Dino is no RINO, Republican in Name Only.
This may be unfair, here is a piece about a fact check for both. What I will point out is, that the evidence that he crossed the aisle is that Democrats voted for a budget that he takes credit for as head of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, a position he had because Republicans held the majority. Who crossed the aisle? But speaking of crossing the aisle, there are a few Democrats that vote independently, and at least one Replublican who actually crossed the aisle. You go figure.
But the ecomomy is an important issue, and control of government matters on the roller coaster * of tax and spend or cut and don't invest.
* important to actually read this one. and I won't explain the path that brought this ramble maybe it is about the "quotation marks" that do matter where they are culled from, when a detailed read tells more of the story.

"Caesar's work"
"The View"
After a quick Google or Yahoo(!) I found an anachronism. Of course everything is, if you are trying to catch up with history or follow John McCain. But it was his leap from "founding fathers" to "In God we trust".
Ok, now follow me: He believes in God, he believes in the Constitution, "God" is not in the constitution, "trust" is. Nor is "Creator", so who made these things up. "Being" and "Power" is; usually in relation to requirements and connections to the people.
Ouch! I did not know I was going there. But the point is the flip-flop from his "no litmus test" to his interpretation or "quote" interpretations as exposed on the grill, I mean "The View". For those not down with computers, the point is that embedded in the above links is the fact that the motto of the United States is "In God we trust" and came about in 1956. And for those who are reminded of the Pledge of Allegiance, it was changed in 1954. And back to the history of our motto: e pluribus unum: "Out of Many, One." I guess this is McCain's interpretation of change or quote interpretation, or nuance.
[And speaking of stretch, as in Caesar's Salad, I refer to the tossing of "isms" as coat of arms. The dressing and heat of the kitchen metaphors, makes her no Truman or Teddy, but she has been referred to as "Reagan in a dress" and it should be checked if her lipstick is teflon.]

Ownership society?
I guess this means that if you say something over and over again, you own it.
So when Obama used the phrase, he was violating a copyright, apparently. Meaning that his use of it was an attack on the last user of it. But wait, "lipstick" was the only link between "liptick on a pig" and the "pitull" Palin. Oh, wait. The pitbull did not have lipstick it was the hockey mom. That was the only difference. I guess this demonstrates the McCain courage, fighting aphorism proliferation. Meanwhile, it is a good thing that McCain has his "hockey mom" on a leash.
This post is saved in draft while America commemorates September 11th, 2001. Apparently the media is not honoring the ceasefire. And speaking of trauma.

"lipsticks and stones"
Context explained. Keith Olbermann Countdown"trotted out lightning rod" for foe claims of spelling (I mean sexism).
Watershed moment? NBC questions.
Irony noted: McCain has to explain context of Obama remark, already explained by Obama. Obama has to explain the remark, even as McCain Miss-took it, on Letterman. If it was about Palin, then she would be the lipstick, so it was really about the lipstick not the pig, which makes McCain calling Palin the pig. (Literally hiding behind more than just a skirt, but a Miss used aphorism.)
Has Obama "unleashed" 527's? I don't understand how they work. But liberal groups better not be using the tactics that McCain and his crowd are using.
Special Comment? Thank you, Keith Olbermann!
In Remembrance of September 11th.

Straight Talk Express?
McCain touts his courage. Well does that translate to leadership? What about his campaign? Is he really leading it? Does he have the courage to stand up (side by side) or not on his own course? Can he face the facts?
Not to mention how can we expect him or whomever is directing the campaign to deal with our enemies, metaphorical button pushers or not, when they can't even tell the direction of an aphorism?
Pretty soon McCain is going to be comparing his scrutiny by the media on this issue to his interrogations as a POW. To put this issue to bed, heads should role. Fire the campaign manager who crafted his ad and his reply.
On Hardball a defender of McCain basically explained the afront. The best she could do was frame it as Obama stepping on Sarah Palin's punchline, when a McCain aide actually wrote a book on it. She even explained that Obama meant McCain was on old fish. Well if that is the case, it is really nice that McCain hid behind Palin in his defense, I mean attack ad. The only come back for this kid (McCain, is he has a wholesale housecleaning and finally changes his crew, not to mention course.)
Of course there may be no need to fire anyone, since he may have doubled down and be risking it all financially.

Obama talks about "my Muslim faith".
Wrong on two counts: I am not Muslim.
and he's talking about McCain not talking.
If you think this is serious, get a grip.
Actually it is.
In proper flip-flop(con text) everything is explained.
Freudian slips? Sometimes just errors. Sometimes one wonders. Obama at least was sitting before someone who could correct or side-track him, but was not diverted. Bush or McCain should have faced more such opportunities, let alone Palin.
I can provide that for the catapult situation: One does want to repeat the truth that can catapult over the propaganda. Ironically, propaganda is the act of repeating things as well. Hopefully seniors have nothing to worry about for social security, it may be true, but everyone else? That is the smokescreen of so-called reform or privatization.

BINGO!
Where's the Beef?
Well I did not really mean the Wendy's ad, nor Mondale's swipe at Hart.
But Robert Parry's references to the "whopper" and the issue of change as high-jacked by the Republican party makes, "HOME OF THE WHOPPER" seem like what McCain would love to call the White House. Now that's change we can believe in.
Speaking of Change: McCain likes to use the word "reform". He should look to himself first, before he takes us to school, he should finish a reform school himself.

Change (vs.) the Issues
Yes, I was not dreaming. John McCain did accept the nomination for President of the United States. Is he real yet? And yes. I did find that he did say: "I wasn't my own man anymore; I was my country's." So despite the story that this happened while he was a prisoner of war, as late as the last year, several reports to the contrary are out there. So it must be legitimate to ask what kind of change is he talking about?
In his speech he claimed: "I fight to restore the pride and principles of our party. We were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us." So he actually changed after his internment, and it seems he fought his party, that needed change. Has he won yet? So he is a party man, who fights for a party. Has it changed or has he changed again? Remember he was his countries man at one point, but you know?* I think I'm going to get lost.
OK, maybe I am not the only one. Maybe McCain can tell us how we are lost, maybe: "We have to catch up to history, and we have to change the way we do business in Washington." For a pilot, I would think he should know which way history is, but I am not even sure what "do business" might mean. So, I turn back to look for change in his speech, and being a bit of a gambler, but not as much of a Maverick as McCain. I would lay a solid bet on McCain's one line: "Change is coming". But I would not bet, he knows how to get there. In fact, I believe he has shown "That's not change we can believe in."
* [I wonder if he even knows he is leading his party yet. But it should show in any change that may be appearing any day now. And as far as lost goes, I really almost detect some nuance in his words, but then I literally feel the flip-flop.]

"Are we there yet?"
is the childish refrain from whomever is in the backseat.
Well, I am just using that to look in the rear view mirror so-to-speak and see if there has been a change and when. I could have sworn that he said he was not his own man, at some point in his speech. But apparently it is not there yet, at least in transcript form on the internet that is, Or there is a conspiracy there to make sure that a google gets you everything but his. But I did find out that he has support from both Joe Leiberman and George Bush in being his own man. So unless there was some flip-flop in my head, somebody was not briefed on his speech or his strategy. Maybe he has mastered nuance or just surrendered to flip-flop. "Ouch", the last link bears real testing.

The real test?
When? He is right, it is about change and who you stand up for
or what you fight for.
When?
When will he stand up to those that manage his campaign?
When will he fight those that stand by him in his campaign?
That is the test. NOW!(no pun intended)
When will he face his own flip-flop or lack of nuance?
If he cannot and Obama has already(to a great degree) not cast labels upon the
water, then I don't know if it will be "Katy bar the door" but he should be left behind.
He has yet to finish his speech and his is quite a story, which was dramatically and theatrically introduced.
[As far as prepared for "them" and how it works, his speech so far, and maybe his world if populated by "straw" men and red herring.]
[...formally and neutrally known as Digression, he has concluded his very inspiring speech, which is my segue to his story, about a fundamental change that took place in Hanoi, which should indicate that his change already took place, so there may be little hope for a change now.]
[Meanwhile, I won't hold my breath.]
or what you fight for.

[...formally and neutrally known as Digression, he has concluded his very inspiring speech, which is my segue to his story, about a fundamental change that took place in Hanoi, which should indicate that his change already took place, so there may be little hope for a change now.]
[Meanwhile, I won't hold my breath.]
"Let them eat cake"
"and eat it to."
I don't know about mixed metaphors,
but it is not beyond reality.
Maybe I mix-parsed these links, but they do.
What is the difference between a populist and a progressive?
Sometimes, just lipstick.

The Universal Test
For the Media and the People:
Filtering and balance.
Not to mention a test of leadership.
No global test?
This is a head test,
not to mention heart,
and let alone guts.
And more than labels.
(This is a Quick Filter and referencing labels I will not add that one, because I have so many below. While QCON and ROR come to mind, and should not be "left behind" I also want to remind readers of (nfry) in Navigation of our course.

GOP-GAP
NOT!
Whether it the Grand Old Party or the Grand Oil Party there is no GAP filled by Governor Palin. OK, some executive experience. And she's human, they had to say.
OK, maybe we are both stretching things a bit. But this is serious. She did a fine job presenting a fine speech and a fine life story, after Reverend Rhetoric ** presented his fine rendering.
All in all it was a fine show that was very inspiring to the base who have faith in something beyond facts.
Governor Palin[*] has an inspiring way about her. It is the energy and her certainty that is her strength. Unfortunately, her selection seems to be aimed at the Plexiglas ceiling. There may be cracks in it, but when you are on top, you can say anything and still be standing on it. My original panic was that Biden's fire and humor would be tempered against a woman. But given her own fire and humor, and my original panic being sexist, he should give her all he's got. They are already complaining about the media, and unless she expects some affirmative action or pity, she should be able to stand on her own.
[*][9-4-08: Heck, even the above link has fallen for the flip-flop on the press ***. Granted the press was in McCain's corner or they were off the plane and missing the barbecues. (I have no confirmed reports of either.) But the flip-flop that the "mother lacked the soaring oratory skills of Obama", to the "calm, TV-friendly tones reminiscent of Ronald Reagan", belies her joke about "the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull" and her "beat and a smirk" lipstick.(I took liberties to finely edit this.)]
[I watched most of what I watched on C-Span, and bounced in and out of MSNBC, but did catch a bit of grousing about the timing of the speeches, not allowing for the media filtering. While I did not watch equal amounts of the two conventions or networks, they were probably right that the speeches were more tightly timed, but it seemed that MSNBC had filtered and missed several of the Dem ones anyway. So I could not tell if MSNBC gave equal time or equal filtering for both convention's speeches. Imagine, the convention speeches were getting in the way of the pundits "filtering". I noticed with the first convention the flip-flop, but they actually brought it up. Deleted reference to "moose gun" here. Audience: Aahhhh. Sarcasm there, but to the point, I don't know if the media is falling for or intentionally validating, the whining that comes from the Good Old Patronizing Party, but I think the brilliant selection of Palin was to preempt and to stay the course.]
** [these are chronologically added and I use the word Rhetoric as a compliment. Huckabee had a zinger of his own and Biden "Whoa"good show, fine "lines" and "heckuva" job.]--[I must add between the lines or just plain more lines: it is about leadership, not just being an executive, and intelligence, but more about who and how it is filtered.]
*** bold added and where I may have gotten fine but was filtered through MSNBC.

Questions on Vetting?
There are two scenarios here, not necessarily plausible deniability or incompetence. Is it just ironic that "the one" that was kept so secret was the one that is such a perfect fit? Did they really need to vet someone that so clearly would not matter given the long odds that McCain has, if he sticks to issues? Or was she not so vetted so as to not spoil the surprise?
You may question the perfect fit, but apparently the faithful will not.
[Speaking of Perfect Fit? not to mention questionable sources: Surprise!]
[Updated link [*] at Great Segue Righteously So.]

A Composite Ticket.
A follow-up, of, by and for whom?
That doesn't sound like the "country first" we can believe in.
Now, with the selection of Palin, the McCain team is trying to reclaim the image of conservative reformer. In his acceptance speech, "he will make the best case that 'I am ready to change Washington more than the other side,' " said Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.), a close McCain ally.
Davis also told The Post that the race will be decided more on personalities and perceptions than issues. "This election is not about issues," he said. "This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates."
Obama campaign manager David Plouffe responded with a sharp statement: "We appreciate Senator McCain's campaign manager finally admitting that his campaign is not in fact about the issues the American people care about, which is exactly the kind of cynical old politics people are ready to change." My bold.
That doesn't sound like the "country first" we can believe in.
Enough?
The McCain introduction of Palin was coming out fighting under the banner of Country First. The Maverick reticent to talk about his service led with a one two punch. First it was about contributions then it was about his service. But it may not be all about him. Anyway, hopefully the American people have had enough, to know it is all about power first. Not to put a spin on it, but he is all about guts. Breaking news has it that the vetting process was finished on Wednesday. That that was when Palin came clean on some new details, which could not derail his guts or whomever put him up to this last minute decision. Meanwhile between pre and post just where is the maverick? Not to mention stranger than fiction Rove?
The breaking news above link is quite scary if accurate, and puts to rest all of my concern about what was enough or have I gone too far. In breaking it, Chris Mathews threw in the matter of luck that sent Rachel Maddow and Pat Buchanan at each other. While Rachel was getting at the roll of the dice so to speak which McCain has thrown,(not her words), Buchanan was saying that all that mattered was if it works for the ticket. Which must mean that it really is about winning first, not about country first.
And finally this.

And finally this.
"McCain fights better from behind".
Which will come first the better country or the better fighter?
"No question".
These words come from approximately a Republican Political operative on MSNBC. No question I heard it, but they are transposed. No question is how he started it.
This may seem an unfair attack, but it must be apparent it is completely defensive and self serving in both the quote and my attack.
Ironically we are dealing with a team that came out fighting about fighting for country first. Really? Is there any question?
For what it is, I may have to first go back and remind myself what Obama had enough of. But it seems like digging Fox holes for more "uniters not dividers".
There is no question that McCain and in fact it is not uncommon for so many to fight better from behind, but getting ahead and fighting from there are another story, far different from who is first.
(Speaking of McCain: how ironic that Fred Thompson is headlining tonight. A "Hollywood" celebrity, which brings to mind, Reagan and Swartzneger, not to mention the teflon, yet his subject will be the service and courage of McCain.)

High Road or Low Road?
and then there is the Bridge to Nowhere.
Family matters! But country first?
Enough! I will have to look back to see if I am off track.
The Family Values Party seems to have vetted family as an issue.
But have they vetted freedom? Freedom of information? Not to mention freedom of speech? The media plays a huge part in this, but which side are they on?
Does freedom have a side? Does information?
Of course these are just threads. That does not make them just.
But it does not mean they don't need to be followed a bit more.
Backgrounds matter. Or do they?
"Maverick" was a TV show and McCain admits being addicted to "24" * unless someone was joshing. "24" is the modern version of "Mission Impossible". A fantasy based too closely on reality. I have not followed Jack Bauer for some time, but just which Maverick is McCain. The gambler or the ladies man?
Both McCain and Palin have the far right lifting their spirits with their own bootstraps. Will the media vet the facts? Or does vet mean, being vetted of facts.

Miss Nome(er)
Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission?
Palin Chair?
[BTW: "Happy Labor Day" but is the pregnant pause that the GOP are taking at their convention really about contributing? They really have contributed to the need for contributions being the theme. Now that is the mother of all ironies as well as subtleties.]

More than guts.
That could be the theme of the Democratic ticket. It is also much more than country first. There are many countries that put country first. But are we not better than many countries? And what does this say to all those corporations that think they are people, with rights not responsibilities? Will they be second?
But I digress, do we want a Maverick who is more than a gambler? Poker or any table game may be about guts and calculations as I read more of the LA Times embedded piece. "Voting History" could be titled picking history, but there is more to unembed there.

Change vs. Experience *The media is at the table again or maybe working under it. The above two links keep coming to mind every time someone says what a surprise Palin is**. It seems this is more about ping pong than chess, but life is more than a ball.
More than just words,
